Summary:
Solidarity Center seeks a highly organized administrative professional to support the Regional Program Director for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and other members of the team in a variety of day-to-day functions. The Program Administrative Officer is responsible for day-to-day contact with and support to administrative field staff in the MENA region and serves as their main point of contact with the team in Washington, DC headquarters (HQ).
The Program Administrative Officer must have the writing skills necessary to draft administrative communication. This individual also assists with financial monitoring. Some international travel will be required for this position (maximum 25%).
Qualifications
- Some knowledge of international relations, including trade union and socio-economic and political developments in the U.S. and the MENA region
- Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously with close attention to details
- Ability to work and interact easily with a wide variety of people
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, labor relations or a related field and/or five years of related work experience
- Good communications and writing skills
- Computer literacy for word processing and simple spreadsheets
- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic
- French language skills are preferred but not required
Supervisor: Regional Program Director, MENA
Specific Duties:
- Provide administrative and program support;
- Manage logistics for meetings and conferences and visits from the field; prepare materials and set up conference rooms, and organize staff and partners’ conferences and other SC events;
- Make travel arrangements for office/department staff, consultants and visitors;
- Prepare check requests, wire transfer requests and travel expense reports;
- Take initiative to propose system improvements and understand the role in department and in organization;
- Understand and follow key SC and donors’ policies – provides guidance to staff on these policies
- Conduct issue research for use by Center headquarters and field offices;
- Assist in preparation of budgets;
- Assist with and, when necessary, provides logistical support for international visitors and participants in Washington-based programs conducted by the Solidarity Center, AFL-CIO, affiliates, GUFs and/or other related organizations;
- Coordinate administrative functions with the Center’s other program and functional offices;
- Assist, as required, the Center’s other program and functional offices;
- Provide guidance to field offices on SC policies.
- Assist field offices with administrative planning;
- Provide field offices with information on USAID, NED, and U.S. government rules and regulations that affect program management;
- Support the recruitment of outside program consultants and other technical staff in accordance with the department’s needs; and
- Support field trips by Center personnel.

This is a collective bargaining unit position, generously compensated with a gross annual salary starting at approximately $74,322 USD based on experience.
