About the role

The Senior Manager, Finance will be a qualified and experienced accountant to managing all accounting operations including ensuring that all processes and controls meet Generally Accepted Accounting Principles as well as the accounting requirements in the US and UK. The Senior Manager, Finance also ensures compliance with US and UK regulations, tax and reporting requirements and needs to assess the risks and requirements of operating in other countries. This position requires the analytical skills to support budget development and monitoring and to question managers with the aim of driving improvements in financial performance of the diverse products and services that drive Humentum’s business model. The position also needs excellent communication and relationship management skills to engage managers proactively across a global and virtual organization with staff in four continents. The position reports to the Chief Finance & Operations Officer.

Humentum is formed of a US registered 5013c which has effective control of a UK registered charitable company. Therefore, the position will need to manage intercompany consolidations, implement appropriate policies and processes to monitor intercompany group transactions and prepare both companies for annual audits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Management Accountability (LMA) – Supervise, manage, develop, and guide team the global finance team to ensure accurate and timely completion of accounting deliverables.
  • Work with the senior leadership team and other budget-holders to develop and monitor the annual budget and rolling forecasts, monitoring the key performance indicators that fulfill our long-term strategic plan and financial strategy.
  • Initiate and lead on processes improvements to financial/budget models and finance-related processes.
  • Oversee revenue and receivables activity from Salesforce and other relevant systems into the general ledger system on a regular basis during the month, ensuring the timely collection of all receivables.
  • Implement policies and procedures to ensure a robust system of internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets, including the scheme of delegation.
  • Play a key role in the staff team highlighting the need for strong financial controls and identifying and mitigating the risks of non-compliance.
  • Meet regularly with managers to review performance against plans and interrogate variance analysis and forecasts.
  • Play a key role in supporting the Chief Finance & Operations Officer providing overall commentary on organizational financial performance quarterly to the Boards.
  • Support the financial management of projects, reviewing budgets and financial reports and advising on indirect rate.
  • Provide cover as required for the Chief Finance & Operations Officer and ensure adequate cover of key tasks of the finance team, during leave periods.
  • Prepare the financial statements and successfully manage annual audits with the external auditors across the organization.
  • Work closely with the Chief Finance & Operations Officer to integrate financial reporting systems with other IT systems and knowledge management processes.
  • Lead on the improvement of coordinated management information across the organization.
  • Review and submit the required taxation forms for both VAT in the UK and Sales Tax in the US. Advise the organization on the appropriate UK VAT requirements and look to deregister when applicable.

About you

The successful candidate will be able to meet the following requirements:

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Relevant accounting qualification, preferred ACA or CIMA
  • Working knowledge and experience of UK accounting/tax regulations
  • Experience of preparing management information and business partnering.
  • Experience with international organizations and projects preferred in the INGO or CSO sector.
  • Experience of working with cloud-based accounting systems with a high level of data analytics, including IT efficiency improvements, preferred Accounts IQ
  • Experience of managing a finance team.
  • Experience of managing financial processes, procedures, and internal controls.

  • Excellent Excel skills with experience of building financial models preferred.
